写真: M.Campana My interests lie within the field of pragmatics, or language use. It is a vast field that includes many facets of meaning, much of it “unspoken”: presupposition, implicature, and politeness. Instead of words or sentence structure, I focus on the sound aspects of language, specifically tone-of-voice phenomena. My current model attempts to explain complex emotional meaning in terms of sound-type components, each one part of a biological code. In my classes, we study how humans communicate such information vocally (but non-verbally), alongside the words and structures of their speech.
