The Japanese and Asian Languages and Cultures Program consists of Japanese Language, Japanese Culture, and Asian Languages and Culture units.
In the Japanese Language unit, students conduct research on the Japanese language focusing mainly on modern and contemporary Japanese. The relationships between Japanese and foreign languages are also emphasized.
In the Japanese Culture unit, students conduct research on traditional Japanese culture, and culture and society of modern and contemporary Japan.
In the Asian Languages and Culture unit, students engage in research on the languages, literatures and cultures that span from Central Eurasia to the southeastern Asian continent.

Credit Requirements

●Master's Program(Thesis)
 ・18 or more credits from subjects within the major.
 ・8 or more credits from subjects outside the major.
 ・4 or more credits from subjects prescribed in the Appended Table.

●Master's Program(Coursework+Research Project;Non-Thesis)
 ・12 or more credits from subjects within the major.
 ・4 or more credits from subjects prescribed in the Appended Table.
 ・Up to 14 credits of subjects in the major and common subjects can be counted toward the overall requirements.
 ・Up to 8 credits of subjects in the Coursework Program General Subjects can be counted toward the overall requirements, but only when a supervising professor gives special permission.
