「竹のチカラでつくるゼロカーボン社会～白川から始める持続可能な暮らし～」の竹ワークショップを開催しました
12月6日（土曜）、本学において、本学国際関係学科のSingh准教授と同教員の研究指導を履修する学生が、神戸市のKOBEゼロカーボン支援補助金制度に採択された活動、「竹のチカラでつくるゼロカーボン社会 ～白川から始める持続可能な暮らし～」の一環として、竹ワークショップを開催しました。
本ワークショップは、①日本の放置竹林問題に関するプレゼンテーション、②竹あかり作り、③環境問題や竹の利活用に関するグループディスカッションの３部から構成されたサステナビリティ・ワークショップです。使用された竹は、須磨区白川地区で主に同研究指導の履修学生が伐採したものです。本学の学生、教職員、地域の方など20人超の参加があり、活気と魅力に満ちたイベントになりました。
本ワークショップは、同研究指導を履修する大学院生による研究活動の一環として実施されました。放置竹林は生態系の乱れや土砂災害の原因となることから、近年全国的に問題視されています。そこで、本ワークショップでは、プレゼンテーション、グループディスカッション、竹あかり作りを通して、環境問題について考える機会を提供し、環境に優しい持続可能な竹の活用方法を提案することで、資源の循環利用を促進し、脱炭素への意識を高めることが目的とされました。
参加者からは、「放置竹林の問題と地域活性化について詳しく知ることができた」、「地域の課題を地域の方々と大学がともに考えるという、他の学校ではあまり見られない独自性のある取組だった」などの感想が寄せられました。先日の本学の学園祭でのイベントを踏まえ、地域の方々と本学との有意義なコミュニケーションが促進され、小規模ながらも地域密着型の活動が、SDGsや神戸市が掲げるゼロカーボン社会の実現に貢献できることが改めて示されました。今回得られた知見は、今後、白川地区における竹資源の利活用や地域活性化に関する研究に活かされる予定です。
On December 6th (Saturday), Associate Professor Singh and his seminar students held a sustainability workshop consisting of the following three parts: 1. A presentation on abandoned bamboo forest issues, 2. Bamboo lantern making, and 3. Group discussions on environmental issues and utilization of bamboo. The bamboo used in the workshop was harvested in the Shirakawa area of Suma Ward mainly by the seminar students. The event was lively and engaging, with over 20 participants, including students, faculty members, and local residents.
The workshop was conducted as part of research by a graduate student of the seminar. Unmanaged bamboo has increasingly been recognized as a nationwide issue in Japan, as it can cause ecological imbalance and lead to sediment disasters. The workshop was designed to promote resource circulation and enhance awareness of decarbonization by providing opportunities for participants to think about environmental issues and proposing environmentally sustainable methods of bamboo utilization through presentations, group discussions, and hands-on activities such as making lanterns.
Participants shared their impressions such as, "I learned about issues related to abandoned bamboo and regional revitalization." and "It was a unique initiative not often seen at other schools, where local residents and the university came together to think about local issues." Building on the momentum of the recent school festival event, the workshop fostered meaningful communication between the university and the local community, showcasing how small-scale, community-based initiatives can contribute to the SDGs and Kobe's zero-carbon vision. The insights gained will be applied to future research on bamboo resource utilization and regional revitalization in the Shirakawa area.
